Shannon Baker’s debut novel, Ashes of the Red Heifer, earns the label “thriller” in spades. Though cut from the same cloth as The Di Vince code, the plot and characters ring truer in Ms. Baker’s book. Like other mega-selling religious thrillers, this is no Disney rollercoaster ride. It’s a nonstop race full of disturbing tension and heroic action. The ideal way to read main-character Annie’s story is in one sitting, with an oxygen tank within reach.

As soon as I heard this book was coming out I contacted the author and said “I need to read this book and would love the opportunity to review it!” A few months later I had the book in my hand and although I am only about halfway through it I can honestly say that it was worth the wait. Within the first few pages the action and mystery start and so far haven’t stopped – the pacing is ideal for the content.
